speaking at the Chinese-American Planning Council
I left Hong Kong for a short Thanksgiving break home and its been great to be back. While in New York yesterday I had the privilege of presenting to about 30 or so high school students as a guest speaker for the Youth Services program at the Chinese-American Planning Council in Flushing, Queens. The Chinese-American Planning Council is a community-based organization providing services to New York’s large Chinese immigrant population. The discussion topic was finding the “perfect career” (although we strayed a bit into talking about celebrities, Canadian women, parents etc.) and while I would say that my qualifications to advise on career choice may be questionable at best, I certainly understand the high expectations that students of immigrant families often face in their academics and careers. Having grown up in Queens in a Chinese family, I was humbled to have the opportunity to talk about my experience and hopefully give some insight similar to that which has often been given to me by my mentors along my career path. Thanks to all the students for preparing some great questions, and to Brian Chen and Noelle Yang for being wonderful hosts and grabbing these snapshots.
