Wedding Day FAQ

What are your rates?
Wedding day packages start at HK$16,880.

How would you describe your shooting style?

My goal for every wedding is to document your special day through candid and natural-looking photos. My aim is to capture the moments and emotions that make up your wedding day while being as non-intrusive as possible. I don’t rely on heavy “photoshopping” or color manipulation to achieve a certain look in my images – I find that images with minimal editing are most likely to stand the test of time. My biggest influences are other Western wedding photographers.

Will you provide a CD with digital image files?

Yes, all wedding packages include a CD with high-resolution digital files.

Do you shoot with a second photographer? Is that really necessary?

All wedding packages include a second photographer, who assists me with lighting equipment and coverage of multiple locations and angles during key moments of the day (for example the morning prep, the ceremony, your first dance etc.).

When do you typically start and finish shooting?

I typically start coverage shortly after make-up begins, with the bride/bridal party. The second photographer will typically start coverage with the groom/groomsmen. Coverage usually ends shortly after any post-wedding party/reception.

We like your photos and the pricing is within our budget, so what are next steps?

  • Meeting: We’ll meet in person for coffee or after-work drinks to get to know each other, look at additional sample work and discuss your wedding plans (30-60 minutes, wherever convenient around Hong Kong Island or at my studio in Wanchai).
  • Deposit: In order to secure the date, I’ll need you to sign a contract and pay a deposit.
  • Final planning: Leading up to the date, I’ll ask you to keep me updated about your plans via email. About 2-4 weeks before the date, we’ll meet again briefly to confirm all your plans. Schedule permitting, I’d also like to attend your wedding rehearsal, if there is one.

How many photos will we receive, and do we get to choose them? Will they be retouched?

It’s difficult to quantify exactly how many photos will be shot, because every wedding is different, but on average I provide 300-400 images for a full-day wedding. Of course, we’ll take many more shots throughout the day, and then filter out any images that are obviously unusable (I never compromise documenting any aspect of the day in the filtering-out process).  All images then undergo post-production for adjustments such as color correction, exposure, straightening, cropping, etc.

Do you also provide black & white photos?

I’ll choose a selection of photos to be provided in B&W (usually 30-50 images).  For every B&W photo you receive, you’ll also receive a color version.

How long before we get our photos back? Can we share the photos online with our family and friends?

I’ll send you a small group of preview photos within one week of the wedding date, and the remaining images will be delivered in approximately 4-6 weeks. I’ll provide both a link to a web gallery and a CD with high-resolution and medium-resolution digital files. You can email the web gallery link to your friends and family directly, or upload the medium-resolution files from the CD to your own website of choice (e.g. Facebook).

How do we order prints or albums? Can we print the photos ourselves?

Prints are available on archival fine-art paper, metal prints or canvas wraps. Wedding albums are custom-designed by kenneth lim photography and hand-made in New Zealand by Queensberry. While the digital files on the CD provided are free for your personal use, I recommend that you and your family order hard-copy prints directly through kenneth lim photography. This ensures the highest quality, because each print order is:

  • printed with a lab that I have selected and trust,
  • digitally prepped for appropriate sharpening, color accuracy, cropping and resolution, and
  • personally proofed before delivery. Your family and friends can also order prints directly from the online web gallery, which accepts credit-card payments and ships internationally.

What information should we provide you (the photographer)?

The more information that you can provide me in advance, the better, particularly:

  • a schedule or rundown of the day
  • a list of names in the wedding party and close family
  • a list of group formal photos if needed
  • a contact at the wedding venue so that I can arrange my own site visit
  • anything else unique about your wedding (eg. wedding themes, surprises, special first dances, etc.)
